It's Friday!! I hope you all had great weeks! I've been falling asleep while watching t.v. at night all this week so I think I'm in need of some hibernation this weekend (haha). I've also been binge-listening to this podcast, "The Dream," that I highly recommend. It's all about MLMs/pyramid schemes and it is fascinating (and scary)!
Anyways, if you won't be hibernating this weekend, here is some outfit inspiration courtesy of what I've worn lately. I'll link what I can at the end of this post. Happy shopping!
I've seen a few bloggers posting recaps of their favorite clothing purchases of 2018, and I loved it so much I'm doing the same! Isn't it the worst feeling when you spend money on something and then barely wear it?! These pieces I'm sharing below have gotten so much use in my wardrobe and can be worn in so many ways. They were worth every penny and I recommend them 100%. If you're trying to build a closet full of items you'll love and wear constantly, these are a good start. Happy shopping!
Cozy Blanket Scarf
I am obsessed with this scarf! It's so warm and oversized, it's like wrapping yourself up in a warm hug. If you live in an area with cold winters, you need a blanket scarf in your life! I promise you will wear it constantly. This one from Anthropologie is my favorite because it comes in a bunch of gorgeous colors (I have the hunter green but I also love the charcoal grey and the light pink) and the fringe detail makes it extra special. The material is super soft and the price is great!
Available at Anthropologie, $48
Lace Cami Bralette
Every woman needs a good bralette in her wardrobe. They are perfect for adding under a low-cut or sheer top when you need more coverage, or for throwing on when you're lounging around at home. I've purchased many a bralette that I ended up not liking, but this style from Carly Jean Los Angeles is my absolute favorite!! I have it in several colors and I wear them all so much. They are comfortable and hold me in place, and they look pretty layered under tops.
Available at carlyjeanlosangeles.com, $18
I invested in these shoes last spring and I am so glad I did. I wore them allllll summer long with pretty much everything. I love the way the white pops with my outfits, and they are comfortable enough to wear when I'm on my feet all day exploring the city. They took about two wears to break in, and then they were molded to my feet and fit perfectly. I cannot recommend these shoes enough as you get your closet ready for spring and summer! They are worth every penny and will last for years.
Available at Zappos.com, $99.95
A Leather Crossbody Bag
A good leather handbag is an investment that will stay in your wardrobe for years. Last year, after my favorite black purse broke, I purchased this crossbody from Madewell. I use it almost every day in the winter and I love it! The size is small enough that I can easily toss it over my shoulder, but roomy enough that it can fit my wallet, phone, keys, gum, lipstick and a small book. The quality of Madewell bags is fantastic. I highly recommend!
Available at Madewell, $128
Denim Overall Shorts
I couldn't write this post without mentioning my trusty overall shorts! I got them at Gap last spring and wore them at least once a week all summer long. They are so comfy, but look put together, and they can be styled in so many different ways. I wore them over a crop top for a daytime bachelorette party, over t-shirts for casual weekend outings, and under cardigans and crewneck sweatshirts as the weather got chilly. They were such a great investment piece. This pair isn't available anymore, but you can find similar styles at ASOS, Urban Outfitters, and Madewell, and I'm sure Gap will have another pair this spring.
A good pair of black leggings is a must! But it can be hard to find a pair that's comfy, good quality, and not too thin/sheer. In 2018, I discovered these leggings from Lou & Grey and they are my new favorites! They are lined with a super soft fleece material and are the perfect thickness. They're not too tight or high-waisted, but they're extremely comfy and flattering. I wear mine all the time, at home with my slippers and t-shirts, or outside under tunics.
Available at Lou & Grey, $39.50
I've been making a conscious effort to take more photos of my outfits lately (though it's getting harder now that it gets dark so early), and I figured I'd share some with you! Some of the items in the photos are from past seasons, but I'll link what I can at the bottom of this post. If you're looking for inspiration, make sure you also check out the "My Closet" and "My Style" sections of the site - where I link my favorite things and share outfit photos. Happy outfit making!
PS- Thank you to my supportive boyfriend, Adam, for being the source of all these smiles as the man behind the camera!

How is it already November?! Too crazy. We are in the heart of fall right now and I'm trying to soak up the last bits of decent weather before winter arrives here in NYC -- although sadly it's basically dark out when I leave work at 4:45 these days. But I'm still trying to get in lots of cute fall outfits while I can. I feel like nothing really says fall like corduroy and the color burgundy, and I recently found a pair of overalls from Gap that combines them both! They have a cropped leg and are a bit more form-fitting than the black pair I've featured on the blog before HERE, and they look cute with so many different outfits (For size reference, I'm wearing an XS. Size up for a more relaxed fit). For this look, I styled them over a chunky striped Madewell sweater I've been loving this season, and finished it off with a tan leather bag and some fall-colored Vans. The sweater kept me warm enough that I didn't even need a jacket -- and anyone who knows me knows that I wait as long as possible before giving in to wearing a coat each year. What can I say? I don't like covering up my outfits ;)

I have been a little MIA on the blogging front lately because I've been so busy at my regular job that the last thing I want to do is stare at the computer for even longer when I get home (haha). I can't believe today is only Tuesday. Phew! I have been posting a lot of fall goodness on my Instagram, so if you haven't already, give me a follow @abby.formella. Are you too busy to browse online? I did the work for you and picked out my favorite new fall finds available now! Click the links below to shop. : )
American Eagle Corduroy Trucker Jacket
I love corduroy for fall and this jacket is perfect!! It's a great weight for the cool but not cold weather we are having -- just keep adding layers as you need them! I love the oversized fit. It looks cool but will also fit over warm sweaters and hoodies. The jacket comes in a few colors but this one is my favorite! PS - the reviews say that it runs large, so size down if you want a tighter fit.
$79.95, American Eagle
LOFT Chambray Peplum Top
This top is the perfect layering piece for fall. Wear it under a cozy cardigan or jacket and pair with black skinny jeans/trousers and some booties and you've got an easy, comfy business casual work outfit that can take you from day to night! The peplum detail makes it extra feminine and flattering, and the v-neck is pretty but still work appropriate.
Madewell Cardiff Striped Crewneck Sweater in Coziest Yarn
Okay, you all know I constantly profess my love for Madewell, and they are killing it once again with their assortment this fall. How fun is this sweater?! The colors will brighten up your cool weather wardrobe while still looking seasonally appropriate, and the bell sleeves are just too cute! Shut up and take my money, Madewell!
Anthropologie Cozy Blanket Scarf
When it comes to scarves, I like them big enough to double as blankets. I love being able to drape them over my lap while at work and use them as makeshift pillows during travel. That's why I think this scarf is just so perfect! The fringe detail is super fun and special, and the size will keep your neck cozy and warm from the cold. So many great colors to choose from too! They'll brighten up your dark outerwear.
Gap Plaid Zip-Front Mini Skirt
I love this skirt to wear to work this fall and winter! It will look so chic paired with a simple black sweater, tights and boots. The zip detail makes it extra special, and the price is great!
Carly Jean Los Angeles "Hollyn" 3/4 Sleeve Dress
Carly Jean Los Angeles is one of my favorite online shops. Their fabrics are soo soft, it's crazy! I love this dress for fall because it looks flattering and could easily be dressed up or down. Wear it with booties to work and with sneakers on the weekends. It could also look cute layered under a denim jacket or chunky cardigan as the temperatures drop.
$58.00, Carly Jean Los Angeles
Now that it's official, I'll wish you all a Happy Fall! Temperatures are starting to drop in NYC already so I'm slowly transitioning my closet over to my cold weather wardrobe. Fall dressing can be tricky because it can go from warm to cool pretty quickly and randomly, so it's all about the layers and versatile pieces these next two months. For this reason, I'm sharing with you a little now and later outfit that can be worn now (when it's still on the warmer side) and later (when it starts to get chilly). The best part is that it's super affordable, so you can save money for those booties and sweaters you've been eyeing. Happy layering season! XOXO
This outfit is perfect for the weather right now. It looks fall-ish and cute, but you won't be too hot. I wore this exact outfit to work on casual Friday last week and got so many compliments! The Universal Thread Floral Wrap Top pairs perfectly with a pair of high-waisted jeans (so flattering), and some slip-on suede mules are perfect to wear when it's no longer sandal weather but too hot for booties. A brown leather satchel ties the whole look together.
To make the same outfit work when the temperatures drop, just add a field jacket (I chose a rust color that complements the shirt - it's from a few years ago, but I found a similar option available now) and throw on a hat. I'm wearing a felt hat my dad gave me for Christmas a few years back, but a beanie would look super cute too! You could also switch up your shoes for boots or sneakers if you need a bit more coverage. A perfect fall outfit for a great price! Check out the links below to shop the pieces.
